It’s almost Friday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase.  Weekly,  I post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices.  My occasional “Wine and Dine” articles suggest a recipe with wine pairings.  This past weekend one of my daughters was married in Colorado and trust me, there was plenty of celebration to be had!  The atmosphere was fun and elegant with a Colorado vibe, and everyone looked beautiful in colors which reflected the natural beauty of that state – sunflower yellow, sky blue, grass green, Aspen gray, sunset coral, and more.  In fact, the only Little Black Dresses I’ve seen lately are  the bottles I received as samples to taste so that I could share my notes with you!  The wedding is finished and I’m ready to put on my Little Black Dress!  How about you?

*2011 Little Black Dress Divalicious White – A blend of 64% Pinot Grigio, 18% Moscato, 8% Chardonnay, 4% Sauvignon Blanc, and 6% “other” from vineyards in Mendocino, California, I shared this wine with two friends, only one of whom is the target market… Millennial females.  The color of lemon in the glass with citrus and flowers on the nose, this was a good balanced wine at a quite nice price point.  Off dry, medium acidity, and with tastes of more citrus, apricots and peaches, we enjoyed the minerality and balance this wine showed.  We all agreed that not one grape overshadowed the other and it was a refreshing blend which paired beautifully with lively conversation, appetizers and…preparing dinner!  Cost is $11.

*2010 Little Black Dress Divalicious Red Wine – Now there is a celebration of grapes in each glass of this wine with  36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Carignan, 14% Petite Sirah, 5% Counoise, 5% Zinfandel, 4% Tannat, 4% Mourvedre, 4% Garnache, and 8% Malbec and “other”!   My guests, none of whom were Millennial women, truly enjoyed this wine with barbecued pork!  Aged in both oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, the rather intense aromas of berries and ripe cherries led to nicely blended tastes of ripe berries with a slight touch of earth and spice.  The finish was incredibly satisfying and so is the price:  $11.

The Little Black Dress brand is targeted to “fashionable, sophisticated” Millennial women, a large subset of wine lovers to be sure.  The price fits their budget and the label catches the eye.  But I’m not in that demographic (although I am fashionable and sophisticated…ha!)  and I’m guessing that many of my readers aren’t either.  But who cares?  Everyone should enjoy this wine and consider it another fun, affordable grape experience~  And if you decide to wear a little black dress while imbibing, act like a diva and please send me a picture!!

Cheers! ~ Cindy
