Happy Hour has a Gift at The Florentine in Chicago

Where to get your happy on?  Quickly find Chicago’s The Florentine Restaurant at 151 West Adams on the Mezzanine level of the JW Marriott where happiness begins in the bar at 4pm and lingers until 6pm from Mondays to Fridays.  Beautifully warm surroundings, electric vibe, and prepared-just-right Italian food and libations to give your evening a kick start are waiting for you.  And the reason I’m so happy?  When you purchase one drink (yep, just one…) you can ask for a pizza of your choice compliments of talented Chef Chris Macchia!

What sort of pizza to consider?  I had them all and it was a difficult choice!!  How about the Margherita with tomato, fiore di latte, or basil paired with a glass of Attems Pinot Grigio?  Perhaps you would love the Sausage pizza crafted with house made sausage, roasted fennel, radicchio, and fennel pollen accompanied by Poggio Anime Nero D’Avola, one of my favorite Italian reds.  It will be a difficult choice between the Asparagus pizza with mozzarella, house cured pancetta, black truffle, and fried egg and the Anchovy pizza with tomato, capers, red onion, and salt cured olives paired with a crisp Pala “i fiori” Vermentino from Sardinia.  Ahhhh, so many pizzas and so many wines from which to choose at this popular late afternoon hangout!

Of course, Duck Confit with gorgonzola dolce, mushrooms and leek pizza may pair deliciously with any of the draught beers (yes, I had a “grain experience” too!) offered in the bar.  Bell’s Brewery “2 Hearted Ale”, Dogfish Head Brewing “90 Minute IPA”, Three Floyd’s “Gumball Head” or Half Acre Beer Company’s “Daisy Cutter” may be just what you need to end one part of your day and begin another.  Beers by the bottle are available as well…think about an Allagash White, Great Lakes “Elliot Ness” or Anchor Porter or any of the perennial brewskie favorites while you decide to order a Meatball, with tomato, peperonata, ricotta and basil pizza!

Cocktails are included in this Happy Hour gift, too!  The Smokey Mt. Rye, Pesco Boulevardier, or Apple-rol cider with cinnamon infused Aperol, Calvados, and Lemon may set your happiness level up a notch.  Your friends may prefer a Blood Orange Cosmo, Mt. Howell, Bellini, Negroni, or Tequila Mockingbird with their Diavola pizza of spicy salami, tomato, fiore di latte…
